As often happens when I travel, I had a list of places dutifully researched & jotted down that I wanted to see in Budapest. Specific streets, landmarks, museums, speciality shops, certain neighborhoods, bars & restaurants.
And as often happens when I travel, I ultimately submitted to an energetic yet relaxed & unscheduled rhythm of wandering, allowing discovery & exploration of nooks & crannies that caught our eye along the way.
So with that list of “must see” places forgotten somewhere in my handbag, I was delighted when we came across ruin bar Szimpla, listed frequently as a noteworthy example of a ruin bar, a landmark location in itself as well as a location that had been on my ‘must visit’ list.
It was a rather warm September day & taking a break inside the space for our first beers of the day provided for a relaxing little retreat. Szimpla is so quirky & photogenic too!
