Last month I dined at ION Restaurant in Middletown, CT for the first time & knew midway through my meal that I wanted to do an article on the delicious & atmospheric vegan restaurant. I was back within a few weeks to photograph several dishes chosen by the owner Renana. Stay tuned for the article, including an interview with Renana in Vegan Health & Fitness magazine in late Summer.
Do not be fooled by the empty seats. This is a hopping & well frequented restaurant. When I visit restaurants, I often have my active & curious toddler son with me & so try to go during typically “off peak” dining hours. When I visit restaurants for food & interior photographs, I do the same so that I am not disturbing a lot of diners & my son is also frequently with me when I am photographing – on this day he napped right through my photo time, waking just shortly after I had finished up & was about to dig into a gorgeous place of nachos.

This Risotto dish was the dish I had when I first visited ION that led me to immediately want to cover the place & photograph their food.
ION serves several of Frey Vineyard‘s wines, which I am a fan of myself. Frey Wines are organic, biodynamic, vegan & pair beautifully with ION’s dishes.
